That's unduly harsh. I'm no Catholic but there are countless devout, humble Catholics that I have no doubt are filled with the Spirit of God. The Catholic Church has produced some of the greatest saints, theologians and mystics of all time.

Really amzing, how Zeffirelli made this movie... This specific part is something strong enough to make us reflect about every single action we do in our life...

God bless you!

What scripture was Francis quoting ?
-
@lambdavi the official Spanish Inqusition. The Papal Inquisition was much later. As if the Albigensians deserved to be wiped off the face of the earth. . . Not that I am blaming you.

I love the video. My one problem is that YouTube seems to be getting quieter and quieter these days. I can barely hear what they're saying.

Zeffireli wanted a the beatles in this movie like francisco's mates. I readed it in IMDB

Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will. Whatever you may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures. I wish no more than this, O Lord. Into your hands I commend my soul; I offer it to you with all the love of my heart, for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into your hands, without reserve, and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father.

St Francis, please pray for me, to our heavenly king, Jesus Christ. For I am a filthy sinner.

mirror of Christ , pray for us
I am afraid there is much confusion on the history of the Church= State, as opposed to the Church= congregation of Priests+believers.
Ever since the Fall of the Roman Empire, the only authority in Italy was the Pope. Kings rose and fell, invaders came and left, only the State of Church was a permanent point of reference.
This video relates to 1200AD, only a few decades before the King of France imprisoned the Pope in Avignon.
The Inquisition was centuries later.
The Vatican dates to 1600.

Actually, there's a whole century between Francis' visit to the Pope and the moving of the Holy See to Avignon (1309). During the reign of Pope Innocent III the papacy was at the height of its powers, and he was considered to be the most powerful person in Europe at the time.
