There was an article in USA Today about a man who delivers mail and supplies to Native American reservations in the Grand Canyon area by mule train.

Empty saddles represent Mules in Training. Note saddle bags. They are to teach the mules not to get too close to the trail walls so when humans are riding, they don't injure the rider's leg.
I'd rather walk, which I've done three times. Just be careful where you step.

No - not seriously. The mules take supplies down to a camp down in the canyon and come back up with mail and stuff - that's why there are no people riding them.
