Go back in time to the early 1900's at Burlington's own Old Town Museum, a recreated turn-of-the-century prairie town that features 21 fully restored, historical buildings, housed with authentic artifacts.
It is one of the most comprehensive western museums collections anywhere. If you love history or are just curious about how people lived, it is a wonderful educational walk through town.
The Old Town Museum at 420 South 14th Street, Burlington Colorado 80807, is open all year, seven days a week. It couldn't be more conveniently located, right on I-70. You can enter from either Exit 437 or Exit 438 when driving from east to west; where big rigs can enter through the Welcome Center Rest Area there.
Explore inside the main museum and uncover a delightful collection of tractors, wagons, vehicles, Native American artifacts, an original chuck wagon, covered wagons, an extensive barbed wire collection, and more.
Out into Old Town's Main Street you meander through 21 fully restored historical buildings with a walking tour of what life was like on the plains of Eastern Colorado. The Old Town Emporium is a shopper's delight with 2000 square feet of hand-crafted collectibles, gifts, keepsakes and souvenirs. How people lived in the mud cabin was the most fascinating to me.
During the summer months, they recreate the era of the soda jerk in the drugstore where hand-dipped ice cream and other old fashioned favorites can still be enjoyed by kids of all ages. There are also entertainment acts and musical shows where they capture the Wild West at the Longhorn Saloon. Cancan dancers perform daily, and you never know when the "bad guys" will be around to duel it out with the "sheriff"!
