  • Dan Maloney was very tough and an excellent fighter before his shoulder was torn to bits. By the time he got to Detroit, his shoulder was badly damaged and he was a shell of his former self when he got to Toronto, as it never repaired 100% - shoulder injuries never do. As a King, he was easily one of the top 3 feared fighters in the league.

  • as usual another bruin trying to double team a one on one fight.they did a lot of that.

  • Dan Maloney is my uncle. Uncle Dan.

  • Rick Smith comes to Kingston Ont. every year for Feb Fest.

  • I remember reading an article in Hockey magazine back in 1977 or 1978 and they rated Dan the toughest guy and Fotiu number 2 but Fotiu was tougher. the funny thing was a week before the article came out Fotiu slugged it out with Maloney and Fotiu won.

  • Stonethemason,

how right you are I attended all Kings games back then at "The Fabulous Forum" Dan Maloney was one of the all time best He pummeled many a foe when he was a King including Steve Durbano,Billy Smith and Dave Schultz (who couldnt really fight without backup) Thanks for the memories

  • Open your eyes you blind cunt, Smith was going down before his skate touched the glove. How fucking stupid are you?

  • Yah. Nice. After Smith slipped on a dropped glove. Really tough, that Maloney.

  • Dave and Don Maloney played for Kitchener a bout 1975. Neither one could lick a stamp.Dan played in London 1968-69 and was a true heavyweight,no offense to your dads friend, but dan was a heavyweight.

  • I don't remember Rick Smith fighting at all in his later career with the Bruins and this is probably why -- he got his ass kicked so bad by Maloney. I wish Maloney had tangled with Don Awrey instead, who was a decent fighter and beat John Ferguson once.

Maloney was a very good fighter in the mid '70s. He beat O'Reilly in LA in '75, back when O'Reilly rarely lost, though Terry walloped him a couple of times after that.
