The fifth in a series of videos exploring the Tanach (Hebrew Bible).

The Book of Exodus or Sefer Shemot is the second book of the Tanach and the second of five books of the Torah written by Moses. The name Shemot literally means names and is taken from the first word of the Hebrew text. Sefer Shemot tells how Moses leads the Children of Israel out of Egypt, through the wilderness to Mount Sinai.

  • On Passover last Sunday, Rabbi David Wolpe raised that provocative question before 2,200 faithful at Sinai Temple in Westwood. He minced no words. "The truth is that virtually every modern archeologist who has investigated the story of the Exodus, with very few exceptions, agrees that the way the Bible describes the Exodus is not the way it happened, if it happened at all," Wolpe told his congregants

  • This is old news. He is correct as far as archaeology goes. However just because archaeologists haven't found anything doesn't mean it didn't happen.

  • becomingjewishorg: 500.000 israeltes(some even say 2 million) wandered in thede desert for 40 years. The average lifespan at the time was no more than 45 years. 400.000 israelites died during that trip. Where are the graves. Where are the bones ? The desert sand preserves everything. Not a single trincket was ever found.

  • Thank you! *blushing*

  • That is great news! Just keep working at it and you will be amazed at how much more understanding you gain in the world of Tanach.
