t was another night of, "Let's shoot a quick short movie". So one hour of filming later this is what we got. Who is the stalker, we may never know...
This was just for fun.
I filmed it using the Panasonic GH2 using the stock 14-140mm lens and Canon FD 50mm 1.4. I also made use of my 8 foot jib with monitoring via the HDMI out of the GH2 which works fine for this application. I used my customized shoulder rig for the focus pulls with the Canon FD 50mm 1.4. I used the Blackbird Stabilizer on this one. Normally I would use my Glidecam 4000 pro but I will be using the Blackbird on an upcoming feature length film so I trying to get as much practice with it as possible. I actually kind of like the Blackbird better than the Glidecam. I always thought that the design of the Glidecam gave a little more stability in terms of horizontal deflections and it may but the price one pays for the side mounted handle is a limited amount of travel so much so that is is easy at times to have the handle contact the bottom of the stage and of course this then imparts a jolt to the footage. Stabilizers like the Steadycam and the Blackbird with their gimbals directly below the center of gravity do not have this problem and for this reason I think I am liking the Blackbird better. The Blackbird also offer that little control knurl at the top of the handle to helps to keep the camera on track without imparting to much finger movement.
Cheers,
Mark
