the whole Leotardo things is a parrelell to the War On Terror.

1) he bitches about Tony saying he looks like the Shah of Iran.

2) he complains about America fucking his family over at Ellis Island.

3) being of sicillian stock instead of Italian it is like he is more fundamental.

4) he complains about Jerseys lack of ritual in Making guys, eg religious iconology

5) he is violently homophobic

6) he is wacked at a Gulf petrol station

the whole 6th series has a very strong subtext about post 911 america. as does the 3rd series of The Wire, which starts with tower blocks being demolished, the result of which causes a war between Barxdale and Marlow...
