Pronger Gets Called For The "Avery-Rule" - OT Goal Waived Off

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Chris Pronger and the Philadelphia Flyers lost the argument - and a point.

The Flyers appeared to win in overtime, but Mike Richards' power-play goal - a slap shot past Miikka Kiprusoff - was waved off because of an unsportsmanlike conduct call against Pronger. Officials ruled Pronger obstructed Kiprusoff's view with his glove.

Asked if he received an explanation, Pronger said, "There was no explanation on the ice because they know they screwed up, that's why."

Pronger said he was directing traffic on the ice.

"I wasn't turned around waving at him," Pronger said. "I put my hand back on my stick on the puck went in the net. It's infuriating. It should've been two points instead of one. There's no question about it. All you have to do is watch the replay. It doesn't really matter, does it? I'm not going to get into a he said she said with the refs."

Replays showed Pronger extending his hand toward Kiprusoff while briefly facing him.

lol im not saying it was a good or bad call

but the announcer is so stupid he cant realise why the penalty was called

he thinks its a bad call because he didnt touch kipprusoff

but the call isnt about that, its about the hand

i keep thinking a guy like me would do a better job then announcers like that

not only did he see the replay...

Nah.. id say it was a good call... everyone saw what avery did... pronger should know better... the commentator is soooo soooo bad... ref was gonna let it go till he scored... probably should have called it right away...

Thats bullshit. Yes thats illegal but there should be no penalty against pronger when he got slashed. It ahouldve been 5-3

THE RULES STATE that a player can not put any part of your arms in front of the goalies face

They didn't blow the whistle even though Richards had the puck for like 3 sec. It may be the correct call but they definitely screwed it up.

@flyersfan345 The rule is that you can't stick your hand in front of the goalie's face, turning around has nothing to do with it. Pronger did that. Yes it was much different but the intent was the same.

The ref was probably going to just go tell him not to do it again once he got the chance, but he didn't, so he had to make a choice.

@North49Canuck Yes he was. Did you watch the game? I don't think so. He didn't do it to block his view. He did it to help set up a play. Avery got in front of him and put his arms in his face, and went back and forth wherever whoever was in net did. It's much different.
