Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon have always been favorites of mine, but these two together make the perfect pair.
This movie is very erotic, but in the best of ways.

I remember renting this VHS in the 80's. I watched this scene over and over. They were the hottest lesbian vampires I'd ever seen. ;)

Noir, I think your reading of the entire film is a little bit angry, perhaps? I felt that the hunger in this film referred to both "blood-lust" as it were, and to Miriam's insatiable need for companionship, love. A very lonely 10,000 year + vampire. I was moved by her sorrow and compassion, not a cold monster.
This is film, both illusory and terribly canted, at best. Despite that, it is a gorgeous piece of work.
Your friend would do well to listen to your advice, I admire your honesty
