Music, noun: 1. The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. 2. The vocal or instrumental sound produced in this way.
Therefore, this is music! Now as for atonal repertoire, that's a different story! =)
The Latin verses here are not the 9th-century text of Hrabanus Maurus but rather an original composition by Hildegard. The chant also varies slightly from that of the modern Liber Usualis.
The music and the performance are splendid, but the title is somewhat misleading. The Veni Creator Spiritus is actually a composition by (possibly) the monk Maurus. It is certainly not one of Hildegard's songs. Thanks for posting anyway! All the best.
Responding to MATTDUNCAN1 - Perhaps, but then again, what 12th century composer is more widely known & performed in the 21st century? Hildegard is a star & would no doubt be stunned to know choirs sing her music 900 years on.
...a feather on the breath of God...we don't have to be believers to be moved by such an image.
