i didn't know you can't record the dances, if it's true the traditional yaquis don't like that then those dances shouldn't be recorded. but i've yaqui blood, and if it wasn't for that video I wouldn't have made a connection to my lost family. this video can do alot good

We still live where we were discovered- Yaqui Joe
-
@mtnflr You have a good point. I have met full bloods that could care less about who they are too.
-
@mtnflr Well Mayos are the half breeds of the tribe and all they do is show off videos and disrespect tradition. They holler at women during cueresma and drink too. And they always allow video and always try to out dance us like what are you doing?
-
@ToastyFB It is the so-called 'half-breed wannabes' who are the ones that are bringing about the history and rituals or our people to the light. I am Northern Cheyenne/Lakota and Cherokee and one of my Grandsons is Yaqui. There are 'full bloods' who could care less about who they are. How in the world can someone be a 'wannabe' if they aleady have the blood?

drive by in guad!

The Story of how the Venado Azule brought the people out of starvation and ignorance is a beautiful one. Im not offended by this video. This is a modern age and to see this rendition of ancient ritual helps people to realize its importance. Besides there is no curing here or healing of the sick. I would be more concerned if that was being filmed rather than this performance that is strictly for entertainment and education.

Hey take this video down!
-
@badazzfeliciano Not really, these are the yaqui mayos. Half breed wanna bes
-
@ldubski It was probably the Yaqui Mayos. The half Breeds
-
@badazzfeliciano Yea same here
-
@igotagoodthang actually yaquis were run away slaves, since we were very close to being an extinct tribe.
-
you idiot.. yaquis were split by the us-mexico border and therefore reside on both sides. i am yaqui and my family comes from arizona
-
@JEWentWorth11 this is masso. maybe
-
@ldubski This Is a celebration. The deer is a sacred symbol which is why we do this. It is a very serious and sacred thing. As the deer dancer dances we see seye wailo (the flower world) we think of it. there is a video that explains it. Just search Seye wailo
-
@ldubski Yeah but notice how thats by THE TRIBE. We yoeme can do as we please with OUR customs. The only people who violate these kinds of thing are the visitors that go to them. It is quite clear not to bring cellphones, and video and voice recorders. So we can cuz its ours.
-
@ldubski that may be but its our traditions so i the tribe can do what they see is necessary. Just saying.
-
@0305525001 Are you not? In that case not this should not have been filmed. But it explains why, as I am interested in all cultures, this is the only culture I can not find any videos of! In a way I am glad they have, because I will not be able to see this otherwise. But I think respect should go before curiosities.
-
@10havier10 lol you are sooo full of shit its unbeliveable. Here you are talking all kinds of shit calling everyone wetbacks and shit. I bet your one of those yaquis that thinks there native american. One of those yaquis that does pow wows and those fucking sun dances. Well I think those kind of yaquis that do that shit are just plain fuckin retarded. So before you start calling ppl sellouts, you should take a good look at yourself cuzz it sounds to me that your the fuckin sellout.
-
thank you yaquimassoBwikleo alot of ppl comment on the deer dancer, and really they dont know shit. And your right the masso and the pascolas on tres rios video are YAQUI.
-
@JEWentWorth11 Well Not The Ones On LA VOS DE LOS TRES RIOS Those Deer Dancers Are Either From Vicam Switchi Or Rio Yaqui But All The Others Are Either Mexicans Trying To Be Like Us Or Mayos So You Have A Point There.
-
This deer dancer here is clearly a mayo deer dancer dressed like a yaqui deer dancer. You can tell by the way he moves. yaqui deer dancers dont move like that.
Yaqui's in Guad take their tradition more serious than those in Tucson. Although, im not offended by the video, I still think they should not have video tape this deer dance!!

They are so serious that they have a carnival on church grounds during holy week!

About 8 or 9 years ago the Pascua Yaqui Tribe filmed a commercial which featured the Venado and Pascolas for a Casino. I've also seen other videos produced by the Tribe! According to your profile, you were probably 10 yrs old or so when that commercial came out. I guess according to your word the tribe as a whole violated it's own sacred dances.
