Stockport vs. Hartlepool, Blunder Ref

Hartlepool were unbeaten in 20 games but found themselves a goal down after a penalty from outside the box was awarded. Gary Liddle cleanly tackled a Stockport player but the referee blew for a free-kick ignoring his fourth official who has seen nothing wrong in it. The referee compounded his decision by booking him. From this free-kick, Stockport scored their second. Hartlepool would find themselves three goals down after another hotly disputed goal. Was it offside or wasn't it? To quote football writer, Michael Gannon, "It was yet another example of a ludicrous rule where Le Fondre was supposed to be inactive when the ball was originally hoofed forward but became active in the second phase when Nelse headed it back and therefore played him on. Does it make sense? Does it heck. The fact that he was in the box for the original ball meant he must have been active but it seems as though not even the referees and linesmen can get their heads round this crazy interpretation". Whether it was offside or not, last year it would have most certainly offside.

All 3 goals stood and Hartlepool found themselves 3-0 down away from home against a Stockport defence that broke Hartlepool's record of winning 8 games without conceding by doing it 9 times so it looked like Hartlepool had a mountain to climb. However, Hartlepool NEVER say die and they pulled the game back. There was on final twist in the tale though as the referee awarded ANOTHER penalty against Hartlepool for an incident that occurred outside the box. Hartlepool's manager was fuming and was then sent to the stands...

Our manager didn't cheat. A member of your staff apologised and admitted the incident was his fault. Wilson was not punished for the incident.

Should of been 4 - 0 that game, Stockport county cheated for those 3 goals and try to get another when we got the game level again. Richie Barker missed a clear cut chance after the 3rd goal went in but overall every team in leauge 2 got banged on by pools

i can see where your coming from for the third goal but u cant blame the ref for that one, thats what it says in the laws of the game, its a case of the laws being ,in your opinion wrong, not the referee, hes following the laws

The very first one, you can see the referee is clearly pointing to the very first foul that happened right before the foul in question. The first foul was clearly inside the box.

The foul at 2:20, I can't tell since the camera was at an angle that made it difficult to say if he was pushed or not for sure, but did look like a foul.

Foul at 3:40... CLEARLY outside of the box. This one was a wrongfully awarded PK, and should have been a direct kick.

The first was a pen for first foul like ppl have said. the offside clearly wasn't because if ball had gone through to the box then would've been offside, rules say the player can only be ofside if the bal is passed to him by his team mate which clearly didn't happen

I'm a hartlepool fan and the run we had was great i'm sure i'm as dissapointed that it ended as everyone but that happens in football even the best lose but they struggle to accept it hence why they cheat but lets not get into that!
