An interactive installation of transmutation and intervention. Algorithmically generated flames lap, crackle and soar until people break the invisible boundary and enter the space. Their physical presence, movement and gestures transform the sound space and evoke images of technological instrumentation which are seen to emerge from the flames. The objects range from the prehistoric, through the industrial, to the modern domestic, an electronic taxonomy of objects, classified according to the process by which they harness and redefine the natural. The use of video and computer technology allows for an 'invisible interface' where peoples movement and gestures evoke images and sounds from within the computer memory. Gentle, coaxing gestures allow images to develop, to melt and decay, rapid movements causes images to dance, to dash, explode or implode. Tessa Elliott & Jonathan Jones-Morris 1996
