Zanzibar Beach Boys

As part of the African Digital Diaries online observatory of informal technology-based learning in Africa, we are proud to present this production by Zanzibits a media technology training project in Zanzibar, made exclusively for African Digital Diaries.

The film, Zanzibar Beach Boys, is a short documentary about a group of young men (beach boys) on the fringes of the tourist industry, who are pulled into informal IT based learning by their love of football. Using borrowed laptops and unofficial wifi leaked from hotels, they are picking up useful skills in English and IT, which may stand them in good stead for employment in the island's only significant cash earning business, tourism.
