The wind looks to be blowing around a sustained 30mph in the video, with gusts to 45mph.. a far cry from what happened earlier! Even though the Met Office claimed that "hurricane force winds occurred locally", the ONE HOUR *sustained* wind on the coast at Royal Sovereign lightship was 85mph(!). Adding 10% for a 10 minute mean gives winds approaching 95mph... and the strongest winds remained offshore. Had the center tracked 30 miles further north, the damage would have been far worse.

I was driving a fire truck that night, a brand new Dennis RS.A fast and powerful truck but against the wind that night I couldn't get it above 28mph. It got knocked about a bit with debris and falling trees and I got rollocked! What a night! I've never been so knackered! Pretty scary it was too!

4 days!!?? It was about 3 weeks for us! What a night! I had some trouble getting to work the next day, but I saw it as a challenge to get there!
