Films and film stars are one of the many religions in India.
They are influencers, moulding the social fabric, raising the aspirations and dreams of millions of Indians.
This strange religion is peculiar to India and film stars here enjoy an iconic status.
And, in South India, this religion is almost a way of life.. with filmstars like MGR, NTR, Prem Nazir, Rajnikanth . and Rajkumar leaving indelible imprints on each of their territories.
These are men who have shaped the minds of the masses
masses who have willingly suspended their disbeliefs and look up to these heroes as demigods.
And, in Karnataka, the icon for anything Kannada is Dr.Rajkumar adoringly called ANNAVARU the big brother.
Emerging from humble roots, he went on to become a cult figure.
His success has left many intrigued and his achievements have influenced an entire society.
Whats even more fascinating is that his influence has persisted through generations. It is this thought that triggered us to work on this documentary on Rajkumar.
This documentary explores what made Dr.Rajkumar a phenomenon in the Kannada film industry and examines his social impact. This is the first of its kind documentary on a South Indian film star.
The film is produced by Maya Chandra and her team at Maya Productions, a premier video production house based in Bangalore, India and acclaimed for their innovative corporate communications, especially corporate films and specialized work in health communications and the Government sector.
The film has exclusive interviews with actors Amitabh Bachchan, Vishnuvardhan, Jayanthi, writers UR Ananthamurthy, Jayanth Kaikini and Nissar Ahmed, director Bhagwan, singer PB Sreenivos, eminent fans Dr.Vivek Jawali, Dr.Bhujang Shetty along with other common people and childhood friend Tiptur Ramaswamy. The film is narrated by actor Ramesh Arvind.
