Director Dave Roden has announced auditions for Stage 212's Fall 2012 production, "A Thousand Clowns," the poignant comedy by Herb Gardner, will take place at Stage 212, 700 First Street in LaSalle, on Friday and Saturday, August 10 and 11, at 7:00 p.m. Callbacks, if necessary, will be on Sunday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m.

Unconventional Murray Burns divides his time between writing cheap comedy gags for a children's television star and taking care of his young nephew, Nick. When Murray gets fed up with his job and walks out, he finds himself with plenty of free time. He also finds himself under scrutiny, from his more conventional brother and from a pair of social workers who threaten to remove Nick from his custody. Murray's dilemma is complex: setting a good example for Nick while proving he's a socially acceptable guardian and maintaining his own dignity.

Roden will be casting one man, age 40--50, one boy, 10--14 and one woman, 25-38 in lead roles, as well as three men, ranging in age from 32--55, in supporting roles. He will also be seeking four featured dancers, in non-speaking, but fun roles for scene transitions. Those auditioning will be asked to read selected passages from the script. Familiarity with the script is not required to audition.

Perusal scripts will be available . For more information, contact rodendave@hotmail.com .

"A Thousand Clowns" will be presented October 19-21 and 26-28. Stage 212 auditions are open to all regardless of prior theatrical experience.
