Rare early Audio of Wasteland by Goya's Child (1): The South-West of the US - specifically Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Arizona - form the backdrop to this shiort film exploring varying cultural perceptions of a 'wasteland' - is the deert really a wasteland and is there a case to be made for seeing urban life as a wasteland of sorts? Among other images this short piece features footage I took in June this year of the impressive Pollen Trail Dancers performing some of their traditional dances at the Grand Canyon - i.e. the Eagle dance and the Hoop dance (I encourage anyone visiting the region to take time to see them perform and experience their perspective on indigenous connections to the land and community).

The song 'Wasteland' featured often in sets by the Australian early to mid-90s alternative rock band 'Goya's Child (1)' (see their full site at Reverbnation - GC2). This recording is a live recording made at Velvets Nightclub, Bendigo in 1993. Though the sound quality is poor(pre-digital) the melancholy mood of the South-West - its vast distances and monolithic landscapes eerily match the melodic lines to the song. This version of the song - and it is hoped better recordings of this song surface soon - invites quiet poetic meditation on oppression, history and the smallness of humanity in the face of the vastness of the natrual world.
