Best Friends had been called to help out with an animal neglect situation involving horses. When they arrived at the property, though, they found some dogs in bad shape, too. Five adult dogs were tangled up in chains in the freezing weather—they couldn't even reach their frozen water dishes.

But worst of all were these three puppies, later named Carla, Woody, and Norm. Probably only a day or two old, they were lying on the ground out of mom's reach, frozen and stiff. Best Friends vet Dr. Tara picked one up and thought he was dead. Until he wiggled a foot! They rushed the mom and pups back to the sanctuary, holding the puppies next to the heating vents all the way.

  • You guys are the most inspiring part of life I've ever come across! My name is Carla, and I am truly honoured to share the same name as a creature capable of so much love, goodness and happiness, both for them and from them :) All the love from Hong Kong

  • Thank you for all you do Best Friends. Just want to let you know that I vote for you everyday, at the animal rescue site so that you can win awards and I see that you've won many times. Good for you.

GOD bless you and all your animals.

  • That's great! I'm so glad these guys had a safe place to go. Thanks for not giving up on them. We love you, Best Friends!

  • Pupsicles! LOL Brilliant! Good job - I'm sure the mom was happy to be able to get to her puppies. They're so full of energy! I hope they don't develop a sensitivity to cold. Good job, guys!
