Known for their choreographed group celebrations in the end zone (usually a group high-five) following a touchdown, the Fun Bunch's actions eventually resulted in a league-wide ban of "excessive celebration" in 1984.

The members of the Fun Bunch included the Redskins' wide receivers Art Monk, Virgil Seay, Charlie Brown, and Alvin Garrett, and tight ends Rick Walker, and Don Warren. Each won a Super Bowl with the Redskins, and three were chosen for the Pro Bowl. Art Monk was recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The first high-five leap performed by the Fun Bunch occurred after an Alvin Garrett touchdown 1982 first-round Playoff game against the Detroit Lions.

In the Fun Bunch, there was a sub-group nicknamed the Smurfs. The Smurfs consisted of Virgil Seay, Alvin Garrett, and Charlie Brown. The three were given the nickname because of their diminutive size (Garrett was 5'7", Seay known as Papa Smurf was 5'8", and Brown the tallest at 5'10"), comparing them to the tiny blue comic and cartoon characters in The Smurfs.

  • "Son," I have a PhD--pretty sure I'm not a tomato. You, on the other hand, are trolling the comments section of Youtube videos, which clearly demonstrates your age and maturity. Equating endzone celebrations with criminality is probably one of the dumbest things I've ever run across on a Youtube video, so congrats for standing out, Grandpa. Now go manicure your lawn and continue leaving your miserable life.

  • @cmfishskins I can't prove anything because the league is still in business, son. If these guys didn't have their football jobs a BIG CHUNK of them would be useless thugs waiting for the car to come around the corner!

But, its always a laugh getting replies from the tomatoes that come from the zero-generation....anytime son, fire away.

  • @cmfishskins Got nothing to with going undefeated, son....put your XBox 180 down and try to stay focused a little better on what I said.

Hope you're not going to be a lawyer.

  • @possumtail You need to brush up on your facts. First of all, most NFL players are perfectly fine citizens--only a small % get in trouble off the field. The numbers back this up. Prove me wrong. Second of all, celebrating in the endzone doesn't correlate to criminal activity. LOL. Please stop posting.

  • @possumtail Yeah, because you have to go undefeated every season in order to celebrate touchdowns. What a dumb post. The Skins finished 11-5 that season and won the NFC East. It's not like they were a 1-15 team celebrating--they won the NFC East for the third year in a row, moron.

  • @donnpatc Hayuk, yuk, yuk, yuk....boy he did bury'eem good....You know, I bet Gibbs could listen to you yak all night long about it all.

The NFL has slowly turned into a league full of spoiled immature athletes a waiver away from becoming unemployed excess baggage on society....some even potential criminals. There are exceptions of course but what's sad is I can remember when the league was just the opposite. If you can't then you are no worse for the wear...enjoy your NFL football.

  • @possumtail Ha! Gibbs buried Dikka good; I'm done there. But I don't see the harm in yukking it up when you score. Let the other team play defense if they want to stop it. Pass defense after the play doesn't work, fellas.

Super Bowls with the Fun Bunch: 1. After it: 2. Oh, I can let it go. ;-)

  • @donnpatc Since you feel all googly and tender about it and banning it stole away your fun, I apologize. Oh, and beat up on Ditka all you want...nothing to me. They just happened to be the team that beat you that year. And yeah, Dallas has had its drug fiends and tainted players over the years....it seems like some of the other teams are starting to catch up, though. One of these days the Skins will have some.

  • What caused the excessive celebration hammer wasn't the Fun Bunch. It was the sourpuss secondaries they burned, see for example 3:33, and the guys on other teams who decided to ride the wave by calling The World's Attention to How Great I Am and How Sorry The Guy I'm Covering Is.

  • @possumtail Well I just wish I could figure out why Skins vids get all this action from Dallas fans when frankly I could care less about Cowboys vids.

I'd rather Fun Bunch than NoFunLeague. Since when is celebrating TDs immature? It didn't taunt the other team, and it wasn't one guy showing the world He's Better Than Everyone Else. But I admit, Dikka might have thought it old had he gotten two games' worth in Chi, and two Supes' more worth of it might have been tough. On the losers. ;-)
