All the combine minions, like the stalker, the combine soilders, striders, hunters, or even the headcrabs are just other aliens they caught. They just put heavy armor and weapons into their body or something.

@supertoasteroftoast theoretically, seeing as striders as well as hunters are synths, it may be possible to override their security measures on the computing components, hack their systems, and cause a small, but lethal amount of their dark energy used in their cannons to overload and collapse the entirety of the strider, destroying it
