Kit and I decided to take a walk about in a wildlife refuge area near Rocky Ford, Colorado. I was going to try a little fishing but not only were the ponds iced over, the water level in the Arkansas River itself were very low. We expected to come across some of the native wildlife that we usually do on our excursions here but alas, the hunters seemed to have chased off all of the white tail and wild turkey that usually haunt these woods. No matter, Kit found a couple of rabbits, I found some tracks, some relics from the past and a little artwork under the bridge which is relatively new and we both had a blast! Even if I did get smacked in the face with some branches a couple of times and had to crawl around on my hands and knees to get through the tightly woven branches in the bush until we came out in a bog I still had fun! Remember to clean up your trash wherever you may roam!

  • i live rite next to ryans pond

  • @qknicks really? You are one lucky duck! It's an amazing little chunk of land and its really gorgeous after a fresh snow and even in the hot summers when everything is green, though I don't know that I would go crawling around on my hands and knees through that tangle of mess that I did in the video in the summer months, might come across a nice snake or two...

  • Nearly 60 years ago I fished for perch in Ryans Pond . It was a common summer passtime for many of the local kids . I am glad to see that the area is still open to the public . I can also remember the wild crab apple trees that grew there . beautiful memories .

  • @jerryg65 It's still a popular place for perch! In the summer there are always a minimal of 3 people per pond fishing for perch and relaxing in the shade with their feet dangling in the waters!

  • haha i was duck hunting today where you were next to the river, those shells were still there, we picked a few up but we were pressed for time. its an awesome place!

  • Thank you for taking us along Tookie beautiful area, I miss Colorado. I agree, people need to pick up after themselves. Same with the shells, if people want those area's to stay open to hunting, shooting, and fishing, they need to pack out what they pack in.
