I really, really love that dress. And Ruthie... well, I probably shouldn't start on her, because I would go on and on about how she is a goddess of musical theatre.

i think people are forgetting that she's singing this song out of context - she's trying to entertain the audience and sound good while bringing in elements of the dramatic circumstances. She is not trying to play Mama Rose. It's in concert for a television audience. She's doing a great job.
