Major Slack's Red Alert Review - http://majorslack.com/classic-pc-games/red-alert-1-review/ * * * * *
In the wake of the release of Red Alert 3 -the purchase of which in my humble opinion was a total waste of 50 bucks- I'd like to take you back to the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert and all its gritty, gutsy glory. Yessiree, those were the days when there was no co-commander crap, no teletubby tooltips and no namby-pamby here's-how-to-do-it cutscenes... Like, EA, what the f#@k have you done to this game?!?... Lemme tell ya, I am seriously p!ssed about the way that-
Ooops.. Sorry. I digress.
(*ahem*)...
Like I was saying (heh heh...) For those of you who enjoy classic PC games, here's a new mission I wrote for the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert called 'Jackpot'. It's a Soviet-on-Soviet mission with several units modded and it takes place on a map I created from scratch using the Red Alert Map Editor (and a few other modding tools).
HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE JACKPOT MISSION
You can download the mission here (free!):
http://majorslack.com/downloads/jackpot_redalert_mission.zip
To install and play the mission, simply unzip the downloaded zip file and then copy the scu-0001.mix file into your Red Alert game directory (typically this is C:\WESTWOOD\REDALERT). To play the mission, run Red Alert, click on 'Start New Game', select 'Normal' difficulty, select 'Soviet' and you're off to the races. (The downloaded zip file contains a Readme.txt file with the same instructions.)
To uninstall the Jackpot mission, simply delete the scu-0001.mix file from your Red Alert game directory.
This mission has been extensively tested from start to finish (unlike many other modded missions out there) and is fully compatible with any version of Red Alert 1 including The First Decade compilation pack (which I own) and the freeware version. However, with The First Decade compilation pack, although the mission plays fine, you won't see the correct mission briefing (haven't figured out how to do this yet with CNCTFD, sorry...)
RED ALERT IS NOW FREEWARE!
And yes, that's right! The original CNC Red Alert was officially released as freeware last August (and runs quite happily on Windows XP)!
Download the Red Alert game files here:
http://www.commandandpatch.com/index.php
(At commandandpatch.com, click through to Downloads - Red Alert, CS, AM - Full Game ISO. Download one copy of the Red Alert 95 Soviet Disc and one copy of the Red Alert 95 Allied Disc.)
Full instructions on how to install Red Alert 1 on Windows XP are here at my site:

That's it.
Enjoy!
And I welcome your comments...

There isn't. This is a mod.

I started this mission, but not only the Briefing is wrong, but also the ingme messages. Excample: whentanya comes out of the hospital, I get "Evacuate base" instead of "Send Tanya into the base in the southwest corner", as seen in the second video at 1:54. I have Mission 3.03 ECSAM (ECSAM means that it includes Counterstrike + Aftermath), but it's the normal version, not The First Decade.

@rfvtgbzhn
Sorry. I never tested this mission with Counterstrike and Aftermath DLCs installed.
