Soulforce is a group of mostly-Christian gay rights activists who are demonstrating for acceptance, ot at least against oppression, at private religious colleges. For the most part, I dont' even worry about things that happen on main campus, keeping to my own little law school world. But I wanted to interview these folks. Unfortunately, there was more noise than my handycam could tolerate, so I didn't really get anything usable.

It was a perfectly peaceful, well-behaved demonstration, with a bunch of "them" talking with a bunch of "us", engaging in a dialogue, etc.

I don't understand why five of them decided to get themselves arrested by stepping onto campus; things were going just fine without any arrests or other Offical Action.

  • What are they exactly protesting? I can't even believe there are people who label themselves gay Christians. That's like saying Abominable Christians. Sorry but I didn't learn the word abomination from reading comics. I'm not perfect and I have my share of shortcomings but come on.

  • You can be Christian and still be gay. You can be Christian and still be (insert favorite sin here).

And that's if you believe it's a sin in the first place.

Personally, I'm a heterosexual atheist, so I don't understand where they're coming in EITHER case, but I won't tell anyone how they have to live their life.

They were protesting policies of some sort that they felt were unfair, but I couldn't tell you what they were, it's been so long.

  • I don't tell people how to live their lives, it's the Bible who tells Christians how to live their lives as Christians. Frankly, I don't see why we should listen to an atheist who says "you can be Christian and still be (insert favorite sin here)" because that's like following instructions from a food stand guy instead of your coach during a game - it just doesn't make any sense (no offense).

Nevertheless, Christians are still bound to sin but not in bondage. We're still imperfect.

  • Your mistake is in discounting what I say based on who I am, rather than on the merits of what I'm saying. That "food stand guy" might just be a retired championship winning coach.

Then you turned right around and agreed with me; if Christianity is your worldview, that means that everyone is bound in sin, the only difference between people is what those sins are. Some people lie, some steal, some suck cock.

Besides, homosexuality is bad under Leviticus, which is OLD law, no longer applicable.

  • Speaking as a student, an allie, my boyfriend and I both felt as uncomfortable, and quite frankly scared of the Clinton police and my own MC administration members; if you wanted to post something of merit... maybe you should have shown that when a friend of ours, a fellow MC student, to aid another student crying in the line... she was apporached by the police and told to "get away from those people." I am not sure of either the artistic merit or the political worth of this piece. Ridiculous!

  • I wish that I had been there to catch that on tape. Remember, I am basically on y'all's side.

I can only report on what I saw and heard, and was told by those I interviewed.

  • It is. "Lay with a man" (having sex) it's on Levitivus. And any sexual relationship will lead to sex (lay with a man (in the case of homosexuals)) So, it's still a sin.

  • That's right bro. And what it's sad about this groups it's that they don't even preach the gospel and the news of salvation, they preach that being gay and christian is right, when the majority of the people is not evean saved and a lot of them don't even know Jesus.

  • About Soulforce

    Jude 1:

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. 4For certain men whose condemnation was written about[b] long ago have secretly slipped in among you.

They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality . . .

and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

  • Are you Christian and an adult? What you are talking about are traditionally black colleges, which now by and large admit students who are not black. They were founded for students who were barred from other colleges due to racism. Honestly, how ignorant can you be? And so you have shown how prejudiced you are. You have compared the banning of gays in church to racial segregation. Please speak to an adult about these issues, preferably a teacher or grandparent.

  • well thats a horse of a different color...yeah no pun intended there! But if i do recall, there are plenty ALL black colleges where ONLY blacks are accepted. And no one complains about that or protests against them! So if they can say: Hey, we support our race and dont allow any other color here, why cant a church school say, Hey, we support our standards and dont allow that kind of behavior here?

  • You're such a fine example of the students at Southern Baptist College.

  • The "Israely thing?" I don't know what the heck you're alluding to, but it's pretty sad that you would compare murder to homosexuality. I hope you're not Christian.

  • Hmm, I guess when colleges discriminated against blacks, all they had to do was go to a different college and forget about it. Yeah.

  • Depending on your Bible translation, it is often "sexual perverts." Obviously homosexuality today is not what it was considered thousands of years ago.

  • Pro Gay christians? Wow, what happened to christianity? Did any major church fathers support homosexuality? Did any of the Apostles support it? Did any of the big reformers support it? How come for the last 2000 years homosexuality has been a sin but now its ok? Im for sola scriputra, i really am. But when amateurs start combing the bible for justification of their sins, its just sad. Or people who go around looking for a pro gay gospel. Find a different religion.... dont pervert the Gospel
