I wish I saw this video before I went to Kyoto in 2004. The bus driver didn't speak English and I didn' speak enough Japanese. I just threw about 500 yen into the top slot and the bus driver got a little flustered... I wasn't until I saw this video that it all made sense... Live and learn I guess.

yeh, i'm just used to paying one fixed price for the bus journey no matter how long or short the journey is.
do they do day or monthly passes like in the UK?

i used to pay for the bus it was 1.50 no matter the distance unless i had to get on another one!

All Japanese bus drivers are samurai trained and carry "untenshi" katakana at their sides.
Those white gloves are there for a reason you know.
