STONEY AND MEATLOAF AT MOTOWN.MEAT'S FIRST RECORDING.RARE EARTH'S RAY MONETTE ON GUITARS.FUNK BROTHERS BOB BABBITT,AND ANDREW SMITH ON BASS AND DRUMS.STONEY(SHAUN MURPHY),WENT ON TO SING WITH BOB SEGER,AND IS NOW THE LEAD SINGER OF LITTLE FEAT.
I love this song because it don't have the tippecal Motown sound. But hear you can hear in what direction Meatloaf music shall go. Thanks for uploading this song Romonmansure.
Stoney: The one and only Shaun Murphy...still kickin' in 2011...just released her second solo album, "The Trouble with Lovin", (genre: blues, soul)...Shaun is a living legend and one of the greatest female singers to come out of Detroit in the last forty years. Search for her and find her band's website...can not post it here..thx!!!!
Hey, the name of the group was Stoney and Meatloaf. Motown fired Meat but kept Stoney, (the one and only Shaun Murphy) under contract. After years as a lead singer with Little Feat and years with Bob Seger, Shaun has just released her second album, (genre: Blues), "The Trouble With Lovin'"..Oct. 2010...Shaun is an \amazing talent...still kickin it...search for her...oxo.
My theory is that they re-released it in 1978 to try and get more sales due to the success of Bat Out Of Hell. They seemed to focus more of the attention on Meatloaf rather than Stoney (even the album was renamed to "Meatloaf: FEATURING Stoney and Meatloaf", key word being "featuring"!)
A few years after the album's first release, Motown re-released the album using different mixes. Why that was done I haven't a clue, but I was embarrased by the content. Thyey even included a couple of incompleted recordings. very strange....
Actually, I just played back the re-release version (EMI Prodigal Records PDL 2010). It is only Meatloaf's Vocals on the whole track (singing the parts Stoney sings here). If you listen closely to that version though, you can barely hear Stoney's original vocals in the background.. Why it was changed, I don't know, as Stoney's vocals on this make it a much more powerful song IMO!
