Jules Cazenaud: Ballade, Op. 18

Although this piece was published in 1909, Cazenaud was active as a composer, pianist and organist in Clermont-Ferrand in the middle of the 19th century. For more information, there is a page (in French) on Cazenaud on the site of l'Association George Onslow:

In style the Ballade is reminiscent of Gounod. It is not as serious a piece as the title would suggest, but is, I think, a pleasant piece to play or listen to.

French? A piano-student? The melody in the left hand suggests a folk-tune. Some Chopin's traits? and even a start of a fuge in the middle (or a canon). It's pleasant as you've said. Thanks for sharing.
