@kweerb8 some people like to deaden the note which sounds better in hip hop and funk stuff like this.

@kevinkmny steve jordan is perfect example of that. Bernard Purdie to, he is the most recorded drummer of all time period, he dont to chops.

Steve is tha man, this guy is playing music instead off showing off.
A lot of now a days drummer only show off ,you see kids with incredible fast single strokes but no i repeat no groove and feel for the music.
Steve is showing it over and over again :-)))))))))

@kweerb8 To get the desired sound. Keeping it on the snare will probably give him the compact groovy sound he wants. I can't know for sure, as I drum on an electric kit.

I´m no drummer, but he´s got the feeling! i can hear a band played by one man
why aren´t there more videos ? :(

@kevinkmny Agree 110%.....Listening to Steve Jordan playing a groove is far more pleasing to the ear than listening to someone fly around the kit 60mph in my opinion.......it's about the feel and the funk for me and how good the drumkit sounds.......and Steve is the master of all three!!

this is a noob question but why does he hold it on the snare after he hits it. aren't you supposed to let it bounce?
-
@kevinkmny Yeah man, there is one promo somewhere where theres a drummer playing like crazy stuff and one playing groove with a producer, and for the first one he goes like "you are amazing" & for the 2nd one "you are hired"
Every once in a while when i feel i messed my mind up with too much technique, i come back to Jordan and it brings me back to what is more important: the groove.

You couldn't be more correct. Solid, pocket playing will get you much farther than flashy chops.
