I've Lost my Heart in Dixieland -- Carling Family 1984
Hans Carling introduced his family band to an enthousiastic audience in Poland.Next to him on trumpet are son Max on clarinet, youngest daughter Gunhild on trombone.
In the rhythm group we hear daughter Gerd on piano and mom Aina on the banjo.
I'm totally amazed again about the young band's repertoire choice. Father Hans who obviously studied some of the original jazz masters must have introduced this tune to them. The youngsters certainly listened to the 1920 recording by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band . This was the first jazz band already in 1917 to officially make recordings.

This was recorded for Columbia when the band stayed in London, England for several months. Emile Christian was the substitute trombonist on that trip replacing the regular Eddie Edwards and I find it totally amazing that 9 year old Gunhild was able to play these low register counterpoint notes just like the odjb tromonist in this early recording.

Those trombone bottom notes during the pianissimo ensemble---WOW! Even Emile Christian on the ODJB side never attempted that. Marvelous talent.

What an embouchure Gunhild had and at only NINE years old....she was already reaching up for some high notes in addition to the pedal tones she was playing....WONDERFUL !!!
