this is excellent!

I don't see how she overacts. She is losing the man she loves, and she starts to realize that she rather die than go without him. The park and bark days are over.
-
I agree, one of the best versions I've heard
-
maybe she has been engaged too much. Butterfly beautiful.....but wow...she develpoed a wobble already. I'm aftraid I don't think she;ll be singing long either. :(
-
FOrget Caballe anad go for the real thing: Tebaldi!
-
Perhaps you wown´t last for long either...who nows.

Cynthis haymon is incredible I worked with her for a while a wonderful woman
-
it just sounds heavy.

I have to agree that she is mis-cast. Her voice is not under control... she should strive for simplicity of sentiment. Check out Cynthia Haymon's version around here; a beautiful, subdued and simple plea. For siniquez123, I do not agree that people are criticizing her because she is non-European. Good lord, so many great singers arent European; that's not news to real opera fans. Ms. Gallardo-Domas is just out classed by many other Lius out there.

I think Ms. Gallardo-Domas is mis-cast here. She overacts and the high register is not well mastered.I have listened to better interpetations of her.And I sure like her presence in big theatres.
-
I dont see her as bad as others do. The only thing I dont like here is that she is trying to sound too primma donna here, considering that Liu is a slave, not Turandot. I prefer lighter voices for this role.

Domas fans - Don't get upset when people make rude and ignorant comments about Sra. Gallardo Domas. They are just biggots who can't stand to see a non european artist reaching the heights of the opera wirld. They need to get over it. Latinos know how to sing, period!
-
she lucked out and met the right person at the right time! I know far better singers than her! she best save her money that voice is not going to last long.
-
I love this woman. That's what she draws from me, a lowly fan, my own love. The amphibian comment is sad and hurtful. That expression is her signature and the very face of love to me.

ella es unica su voz e interpretacion continuan a la gran calla, como nadie lo ha logrado viva cristina viva calla
-
Listen to Caballe singing this song and you'll be amazed!

Una voz como hay muchas, sus vibratos no me gustan...
-
I saw the whole opera, and she is out of control the whole opera, shaking everytime she hit and a, a-flat or b, an immense wobble, and this music for liu is not as forceful as she is making it, sorry didnt enjoy it, listen to Anna Moffo, Leona Mitchell, Leontyne Price, and see the difference!!!!
-
I suppose I'm not hearing the same thing most of you are. Her voice seems pretty much out of control to me. Her vibrato and her pitch are all over the place. Melodrama cannot compensate for these key elements. To each his own, I suppose.
-
Her breath control is incredible. She's one of the very few true Puccini sopranos alive, and thank God for her.
-
I have Gallardo-Domas as Mimi @ La Scala on DVD, opposite Marcelo Alvarez. She sang beautifully, pianissimi and all, but the high notes do give her that "froggy face." Here's hoping she'll grow out of it.
I thought that was fantastic - I disagree with most of the comments here!
