i don't appreciate the anti-jewish comment by Mr. Ballroom Man or whatever his name is; i mean, sabrina was running the fucking thing and he had to keep people calm. But i certainly think sabrina shouldn't have warned crystal against "showing her color" -- which is like saying a black person is "acting black" by acting "uppity" or being loud. that's like saying to me (I'm jewish) "don't show everyone you're jewish" if i asked someone to pay me back some money they owed me.

someone wrote "wow, they had balls way back then?"
who do you think invented balls? Drag queens in the 30s had balls too, what do you think?

"showing your color" absolutely does NOT mean showing that you are black physically -- it's an old expression that means showing the supposed negative side of being black -- stereotypical things, like being loud, fighting, etc. remember, in the 40's they used to say "that's mighty white of you," if you did something nice. so if you understand that, you see what sabrina is saying is even more racist than most of the commenters realized.

I love Crystal's reading companion. "...and NEXT time she should drop her outfit off at the cleaners BEFORE she wears it on stage". Alas, the editing of this film gives Sabrina the last word, when we are all begging, BEGGING to hear Crystal through to the end.

Sore loser or not, Ms.Crystal made this film; without her and her legendary read, this film would be a bore...
