Royal Navy Ton Class Minesweepers M1159 HMS Lanton and M1177 HMS Rodington receiving visitors in Aden in 1961. Jeremy Stewart of the Ton Class Association ( http://www.tca2000.co.uk/ ) informs us that this was likely to have been between 23rd August and 13th September 1961. LANTON was in Operational Reserve in Aden until June 1961 when she commissioned concurrent with the first Kuwait crisis. At this time RODINGTON was serving with the 108th Minesweeper Squadron in the Mediterranean, and 6 ships from that squadron were deployed to Aden via the Suez Canal, arriving there on 12th July. They sailed for Bahrain on 15th July, taking LANTON with them, and went on up to Kuwait for a brief visit 3rd & 4th August. All ships returned to Aden on 23rd August, then all but RODINGTON, LANTON and LEVERTON returned to the Med. RODINGTON remained at Aden until 13th September when she too returned to Malta. Thus the film was either taken between 12th and 15th July 1961, or (more likely) between 23rd August and 13th September 1961. Digitised cine film (standard 8 no sound) by Fred Collinson, taken in Aden where he lived with his family and worked at the BP oil refinery from 1957-1962. There are other Aden clips on this channel. All hands on deck! Wa.. Wa... Wa! Banten down the hatches! Mutiny! Interesting clue as to who robbed federal reserves. I love this video and the surviving photos of my family.
