Mackie was my schizophrenic Grandmother's only companion. When she died from an unknown cause and was left lying on the floor- Mackie didn't leave her side. The police didn't find out untill three days later- Mackie lived with her dead owner for three days. When the police came, Mackie was found standing on top of her dog crate barking. She was afraid- but she wouldn't leave my Grandmother. They had to get her on a leash and force her out. We had promised my Grandmother that we would take of Mackie when she couldn't anymore- so she was sent from Colorado to Texas. She joined our five pet family on November 3rd, 2010. She was the greatest dog ever. She had never lived with other dogs though, and we had an Irish setter and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We soon discovered that Mackie had food aggression. She ended up attacking my Irish Setter over a bone she had, though both came out okay- a little beat up. My Irish Setter had to go to the vet. About two weeks later she attacked my much smaller dog over food they had gotten to. We found him screaming, with his front leg inside her mouth as she flailed him around. My brother pryed her mouth open and my mom pulled my small dog away. She ended up biting my brother because his hands were in her mouth. The small dog wouldn't stop yelping and layed in my mom's arms helplessly. He was bleeding a lot. He had to go to the vet's, go under anesthesia, and get stitches all up his arm. We could no longer keep Mackie for this one flaw. We loved her so much but it wasn't good for anyone. We found a family for her in Waco, Texas (several hours away) that had just lost their golden retriever and were looking for a perfect match. Mackie was their match. They had five kids, just like my family, but much younger and more active. Better yet, no other pets. I know Mackie is happy with her new family, but I miss her like crazy. She was such a good dog. I loved her. She left us in late February on 2011 and her adventure continued.
