This is a little clip show of footage taken from the public domain serial, "Radar Men From the Moon" (1952). In this video, you'll see all the moments where Joan Davis, played by Aline Towne, gets knocked out. For movie buffs, it's kind of a joke that women always gets knocked out in these old serials, and it is kind of funny. Guys get knocked out a lot, too, but not like women. Women always take a lot of abuse in old movies. Unlike a lot of women sidekicks, however, Aline Towne's character of Joan Davis is actually pretty competent. We know she's a scientist, and a pilot. Joan can fight, to an extent, so she's not weak-willed. Although "Radar Men From the Moon" is NOT a great show, Aline Towne plays a great heroine, especially for the time this movie was produced. Despite what we know about Joan, she doesn't get too many chances to show off her brilliance onscreen. She's basically eye-candy and, in a rather subserviant role typical of the 1950s, is in charge of "cooking the meals" (we hear this in Chapter 1), getting coffee, and so forth. Aline Towne, herself, was a real cool lady. She played the leading lady in five serials for Republic Pictures, and had scads of other roles in film and television. Towne traveled the world and had friends in every part of it, plus she was married for many years to the same man. She wasn't a typical, troubled actress type. Towne passed away in 1996, but is fondly remembered by family and friends. There are four times Joan Davis (Aline Towne) gets knocked out in "Radar Men From the Moon". The first two times both happen in Chapter 4. While fighting a thug (played by Clayton "Lone Ranger" Moore), Joan is thrown against a wall and knocked out. Towards the end of that chapter, Joan gets knocked out in an airplane (again by Moore). Knockout #3 happens in Chapter 9. Joan is punched out by a bad guy on her way to get coffee. The final knockout happens in Chapter 10, when Joan and friends are hit with gas and fall asleep.
That's the Lone Ranger flying the plane.
