how well does the vg-1 steel resist rust? and hold a edge? i hear its easy to sharpen.

How did the elk hunt go for you? Did this knife meet your expectations? I planned a hunt for red stag in SEPT 2011.These amazing animals weigh in at 445 lbs approx live weight.

knife is ok ,, but ,,, i do not like kryton handles ,,,,, they are ok when new ,but ,they get soiled and change their texture in time ,,, and if you use them around lots of grime they feel slimy ,,,,and you can not wash out that slimy feeling .

Just got my Pendleton Hunter a couple days ago, it came with VG1. The belt loop sucks, its too big. So I ordered a belt clip from Blade-Tech, hopefully it fits. I'm also considering a Counter Tac II or Kiridashi.

@MrChinelas22 .. thanks!
is this knife good for some light batoning?
sevendays00 1 year ago
@sevendays00 I would say very light batoning at the most. Not its intended design I don't think. Really meant to cut through meat with that hollow grind. If you start pounding hard wood it could jack your blade quick. I'd recommend a number of different knives for batonning...

@sevendays00 Hi, I am going to butt in here as I have an aversion to any hollow ground blade being used for heavy duty tasks like batoning as there is just not enough steel behind the cutting edge to handle all those lateral forces when it is being hit. No one can hit straight and square each time so each time it is not a perfect strike you are loading the side of the blade. This is where convex grinds come into their own. MrChinelas22 sorry for butting in,I enjoyed the clip Thanks.

@labrat7357 all good labrat. I actually agree with you completely. I have several bark rivers for my heavy tasks. This cold steel is really built to cut up meat. It is crazy sharp but I would be better off using a convex edged knife on something hard like wood...or rocks.
