    I believe it's more. You have a strange feeling that the object is a part of your body, you can try it at home with anything instead of the rubber hand, but it is faster with the hand itself.

    Actually, the rubber hand illusion is proved to work with anything on the table, even if it is nothing (the table itself becomes the virtual hand).
