This and Diamond Dogs came out about the same time, two of the greatest albums of that time.

I've played a little bit of Lou Reed/Velvet Underground around/to nearly every girlfriend/friend I've had, and NOBODY GETS IT! Damn, I just don't get it.

@KingOfUm it's a matter of good taste.. which is a rare privilege i guess? ;) who's not into music should at least recognize poetry

@whateversunsaid I feel also that a big part of it is the production; this doesn't sound like it came out of the last decade (nor any decade in my opinion), it sounds unfamiliar, and people can't relate it to the music they do recognize from the early 70's.
That's why I like (most of) Reed's work, it embodies a sense of timelessness; there are a few albums that certainly don't, but still pretty great overall.

@KingOfUm mm..that's a good point which i've never thought about.. i must agree his kind of rock is evergreen, it's like he's not following any particular genre, but leading all rock music instead.. such a big pillar, thank you man for your opinion!

@whateversunsaid Sure thing! It's nice to talk to someone on youtube who appreciates a well-thought out comment. To add to what you said, he really does just do his own thing, and while sometimes it winds up being brilliant and totally under-rated masterpieces in rock or winds up being something fitting only for jukeboxes in sleazy biker bars, but that's what makes him so standalone and precious to the history of popular music. I can't stand people who think he doesn't deserve that.

@KingOfUm you're right man, and for sure his record company has something to do with the "fitting only for jukeboxes in sleazy biker bars" (lol) tunes, and looks like he was not so proud of them, but that's how music goes today, isn't it? i feel bitter about he's not WORLDLY recognized as he would be expected to be..too bad, we'll appreciate twice, even for them ;)
