  • Audra Is a sensational performer. She brings such unique interpretation on every song she sings. She is truly one of the most gifted singers ever!!!:)

  • But she says Powell chirped it "quite beautifully." I don't think she meant to be disrespectful at all -- she was just pretending to be jealous of Powell's looks for comic effect. I thought it was quite funny. And that Snow White-esque style of singing *is* chirpy, come on.

  • Harry Connick Jr's new version in ON A CLEAR DAY could bring on tears. Too bad the show won't run. The book is a mess.

  • Powell is SO in a league of her own, a living galaxy and constellation pari passu, that it's beyond insulting to even think of comparing her to anyone.

  • @ducdebrabant but, how do you know?? She continued in the vein of catting on Jane Powell for more that a minute...i don't know...

  • snarky Audra...tsk tsk

  • @encorebc Please look beneath the surface of the statements to hear the real meaning. Ms. McDonald is not being "catty". She is bemoaning the fact that she doesn't think she has the lovely attributes she ascribes to Ms. Powell.

In my opinion, even if she doesn't have those attributes, she certainly has enough of her own to make up for it. This is quite lovely.

  • Audra's a big girl, and when she talks about little Jane Powell with her "little waist" she's mocking herself. I realize it may be a little subtle, but she doesn't have a mean bone in her body.

  • @pudgeuncle This will the only reply I make in this thread, but it should be said.

"You don't know her as a performer" - Have seen her perform many, many times.

-"unfounded comments" -Have you listened to her patter in this concert? Numerous catty comments. Has begun to happen more and more in her other appearances as well in recent years.

    I might close with:

"You [obviously] don't know her as a performer."

Thank you and good night (at 10AM)..

  • @encorebc Get a life. You don't know her as a performer if you make such unfounded comments. Grow up.

  • Some have said they also enjoyed Judy Garland's version of "Too Late Now," which isn't my favorite. I've often wondered how Garland felt crooning this tune when she was originally cast in the Jane Powell role in Royal Wedding but was fired because of her usual no-show on the set.

  • my god. have you people ever heard of a sense of humor? it's like some of you sit there just waiting for a reason to complain...it's OBVIOUS she enjoys and appreciates Powell's rendition of the song. and frankly "chirp" was exactly the right word to use...have you HEARD her version? lol. her tremelo and bird like sound is very "chirpy". It's clear that McDonald has that "she's just too darn cute and little for her own good"...come on people. lol
