The Limestone Quarries of Europe
These quarry operations date back long before the time of the Ancient Greeks.. Many
were still in operation until early in the 20th century.
Some of the graffiti in these extensive underground laybarenths date back to the time of the
Roman Empire.
Many of the networks of tunnels that comprise these quarries extend several kilometers,some with
galleries that are up to 15m high.
