Yum-Yum (Natasha Negovanlis) sings, "The Sun, Whose Rays Are All Ablaze".

We went to go see David in Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado", presented by Scarborough Music Theatre. I started taping this because I thought David was going to be in this number, but he wasn't.

Now, realize this: this girl is only 17 YEARS OLD, and has the most accomplished voice in the entire cast. 17, people.

Yeah. It made me kinda wanna kick her in the throat too (but not really, so don't go crazy people - it's just jokes).

LYRICS
======
The sun, whose rays
Are all ablaze
With ever-living glory,
Does not deny
His majesty —
He scorns to tell a story!
He don't exclaim,
"I blush for shame,
So kindly be indulgent."
But, fierce and bold,
In fiery gold,
He glories all effulgent!
I mean to rule the earth,
As he the sky —
We really know our worth,
The sun and I!
I mean to rule the earth,
As he the sky —
We really know our worth,
The sun and I!

Observe his flame,
That placid dame,
The moon's Celestial Highness;
There's not a trace
Upon her face
Of diffidence or shyness:
She borrows light
That, through the night,
Mankind may all acclaim her!
And, truth to tell,
She lights up well,
So I, for one, don't blame her!

Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We're very wide awake,
The moon and I!
Ah, pray make no mistake,
We are not shy;
We're very wide awake,
The moon and I!

  • She is awesome! and I am privileged to have carried her in my womb :)

  • Someone told me I was on youtube, and I must admit I was a little creeped out at first, since I had no idea I was being taped...but uh, glad to know you're a friend of David's and not some creepy old man. Anyway, thank you...I'm very flattered.

  • @twokids8 Oh I'm sure her womb is quite a privilege too.

  • Why was it recorded in the Out-Patients Dept. of the London Chest Clinic?

  • Excellent voice, she shows understanding of the song BUT my one carp is that the body language should be introvert not extrovert. Look at the classic Valerie Masterson performance to see what I mean.

  • Someone with the capacity, please dont let this gem slip into the popular vulgarity (musicals etc). Even I who dont know much about opera get this. =P She really has a lovely voice.

  • it is all about presence combined with talent ... and I know your are progressing on this well.

  • LOL - carry on then!

  • This isn't Natasha... I'm a friend of someone else in the play... I think Natasha shut down her YouTube account...

  • She's good when she sings forward. I notice that at the end of phrases she'll sing in her throat (i had that problem when i first started training), and she's stressing the second vowel in the dipthongs.

    But other than that, she has a great voice!

  • The end of every phrase really dies. Make sure to keep your support going to the very end of the last note. Everyone has a problem with this. The sooner you begin working on it, the better you will be.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Keep up the good work! You already sound like an amazing 'diva', so in a few years time...!
