@AnPrionsaBeag Yes, I'm from Ukraine that's why I am interested in historical situation like this. We "divorsed" with Russia - and faced many, very many dificulties. Large part of history and culture are common - it's almost impossible to divide them. Regions are different - some are strongly influensed by Russia, the other - by Poland, it's difficult now to unite them - etc,etc I am in favour of cultural diversity and preserving of Occitan culture but

It's a nice video, but...Could it be serious? Everything changes, and it's impossible to turn back history. There is no more Dalmatians, for example - only Croatians, no mor Scanians - only Sweden, no more Polabian Slavs etc.Is Occitan language still alive? Are people in Languedoc or in Lemosin still as different from people in Normandy or in Picard as it was in XVI-XIX centuris? Isn't it a one country now? Could someone from Occitania answer?

I can try. From what I read, you're from Ukraine: does this make a Russian? Are Basques Spanish? Are Scots English? France is basically Germanic in culture and language: the French come from what is now Holland and conquered what was then Gaul and Franconia. The fleur-de-lys owes its name to the Dutch river Luts. Occitans, as Corsicans and Catalans, are mostly Latinized Celts: their home was called Aquitania by the Romans, ie the land of water springs. Even today, our speech and tempers differ.

When your whole history, including massacres & uprisings, & literature, older than any in medieval Europe & quite prestigious, are swept under the carpet, I believe delivering the truth, however blunt & abrupt, to the minds of many an Occitan & French citizen is the right choice. I won't let the greed & violence, both physical & psychological, of a fistful of Parisian leaders & deciders bury such a beautiful tongue without a fight. Different times, same politics. France is the USSR of culture...
