Shantaniqua Nykole Scott has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.FORT WORTH - A Waco teen mother has been convicted of injury to a child for trying to smother her infant with a blanket and her hand.
A Fort Worth jury deliberated the charges against Shantaniqua Nykole Scott for only 30 minutes.
The 4-month-old was being treated at a Cook's Medical Center in North Texas last year when the incident happened. He was transferred there from Hilcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco .
After a doctor there became suspicious, the baby was placed in a video-monitored room.
Cameras caught that teenaged mother placing a blanket over her sons face for about 20 seconds.
She stepped away when a nurse briefly entered the room.
The nurse leaves, and moments later, Scott fiddles with the four-month-old baby, and then puts her bare hand over its mouth and nose for a 1:14 seconds.

Why didn't she put this baby up for adoption, why didn't she just tell them she did not want this child anymore. Why didn't she get an abortion? Why didn't she take the baby to its daddy? Why didn't she just abandon the child at the hospital? She had so many options over trying to murder the child, now she's in prison for her ignorant behavior. God help us, there needs to be some kind of intervention for young black women, because the church certainly is useless.

@gigiwillows -I agree with you she didn't have to do what she did she could of just left the baby at the hospital and the hospital would of called child services and put the baby up for adoption or foster care

ONE WORD: SOCIOPATH!! LOOK IT UP!! Thanks Swoops. Shit is worse than we can imagine. Every woman who brings life into the world is NOT a MOTHER!! I hope ya'll know and overstand that. Motherhood like any other "hood" is defined by certain characteristics, nurturing being the primary one. All women aren't nurturers and all men are oblivious to nurturing. In the "hood", it is what is expected of women but it is not a given simply because she gave birth to the child. There are many like this.

@ifama -I agree with you thanks for commenting and sharing your feedback on this horrible story i was so shocked when i heard about this there's a lot of cases of mothers trying to kill their kids but this is the first time i've seen it caught on tape

She's only a teenage girl she didn't know what she was doing she shouldn't have gotten 25 years in prison that's to much time to be giving a young girl like this i believe in second chances she should be given a chance to better her life
