@crazybassheadzz 800 watts peak means it can only handle that in short bursts. 400 rms is what you should look at. RMS is what it should handle constantly. Personally I would try again but feed it about 350 and see how it does.

That "popping" is the voice coil hitting the bottom of the magnet. and yea, you blew it by over powering it! Lol

I wouldn't give those more than 50 watts IMO. I constantly feel the dust cap for temperature while I'm playing music/sine waves. It gets warm on about 30 watts after a minute or two. That's when I know to stop.
You seem to like the basket; you should recone it with a high quality cone/vc. You could even review the recone. lol
Too bad you didn't record you testing it and it blowing. lol
