Ashokan Farewell

I agree argyleed I recognise a good few scottish songs in this piece, it would appear that lines have been taken out of Scottish songs and then pieced together no wonder people find it beautiful and very Scottish. It is mainly scottish ballads and laments.

I don't think this guy wrote this! If he did it was already in the collective unconscious...Looking for a Scottish Lament....Are you sure? I just don't believe that this was written in 1982. If it is not sub/ or un consciously stolen...it is the best damn writing in 100 years...good job....

I love it and an learning to play it on my echo harp. I sounds just like a violin. I dont read music so I will listen to it over and over till I get it right. What a beautuful composition. It give me chills.

Jay Ungar and his partner were asked by Ken Burns to record music for the PBS series The Civil War. Jay knew, and could play, the traditional music from the era but Ashokan Farewell was also used because it sounds like it could be from the 19th century. It also stirs the same emotions the film series is trying to convey.

I have piano solo sheet music and have been working on this for years. The only non-classical piece I've put everything into learning it. It is just beautiful. The violin is best but the piano ain't bad.

In the UK Classic FM Radio play it regularly so it's being accepted as classical by some.

To play the notes is not hard. To capture the feeling is high level playing
