To a large extent I'm sure that Townes wanted arrangements for his songs, his vision went beyond himself. I agree that stripped down has it's own beauty, but I think the strings in this song add a lot of depth.

i saw townes play honky tonks in east texas way back in late 70s and early 80s. now i live in a louisiana city where his daughter lives, she is young, did not know the man that she looks just like, but she understands when i hug her and shed a tear for a man that moves me to hear his voice in my head and see his face on her.
