Esperanza and I walked silently to the car, not breathing out a word. I can tell she is tense, even if it is not her first time being the honoree at a party.
At least this shows shes human and not an ogre disguised as a human.
I nod my head in recognition to Edgar our driver, as he shuts the car door softly and moments later pulls out and waves goodbye to Sam at the gate.
"Look here brat, Esperanza hollers, needing my attention, don't embarrass me. I expect you to dance with Johnny". She turns her head and looks out the window, indicating that the conversation has finished.
"Yes ma'am." I salute automatically. Bad disease, bring out her good side. I prey silently.
Johnny isn't so bad. Both he and I attend St. Marys Private School.
He is not stuck up like all the other guys who show off their money to impress already equally rich girls. Well, their daddy's money, not even theirs.
Johnny Chambers is my best friend come to think of it. My only friend.
The chambers are partners of Belle Fils, which is how I met him. They became partners with Esperanza when her parents died. Esperanza didn't want to have all that pressure of a magazine to herself. Well that's my guess.
The limo pulls up behind a similar vehicle in the long line of waiting cars to be dropped off at the Jonas Hotel. Just like traffic on the high way, we crawl our way to the front.
Hm, the Jonas Hotel owners own this own-obviously, but others too I bet, so why would Esperanza be the guest of honor?
This hotel is finally opening. It was being constructed over the last year. This street has been a hazard site.
"Okay dear, we are almost there. Just walk in, don't stop for pictures or autographs, if not well be there forever!" Esperanza squeals beside me. Good mood now. She is giving me a headache.
I just wish she would greet her disease with open arms and get on the meds as soon as possible. Or I could just get a new foster home!
The car makes a complete stop and the rear door is open, and Esperanza slides out first.
I slide out next, and is greeted with flashes in my face, blinding me. Esperanza links her arm through mine and her and I both walk in a choreographed manner inside.
We are lead to our table by an over helpful gentleman in a black suit. We are seated at the head table.
Each seat has a little card with a name elegantly typed. My seat is next to Esperanza and coincidentally the person to my right is Johnny.
The ballroom is beautiful sculpted. The walls have amazing flowery patterns. It reminds me of any theatre. The room has a goldish tint to it, like an ancient palace, or church. The ceiling in the center of the room is made of pure glass and the glass shapes a rose entangled around a man.
It's one of those rooms that cant be explained how beautiful it is. Only its true beauty can be witnessed in person.
In other words, it's incredibly breathtaking.
A chuckle to my right startles me out of my thoughts.
"I have been sitting here for about the last 10 minutes waiting to see when you will stop staring into nowhere." Johnny teases lightly,
A smile forms onto my lips on its own accord.
Johnny heaves himself up and extends his arms towards me. I gladly hug him, and peek him on the cheek just as I pull away.
A light flush covers his pale cheeks. He clears his throat inconspicuously. 'You look beautiful Miley." He grins at me, his eyes praising my body.
"You don't look so bad yourself Mr. Chambers." I grin back, leaning back in my chair as the lights in to room dim and a spotlight focuses as the center table, towards our host.
