Let me get this out of the way and say that I'm not really a Touhou fan. lol But I loved the first Koumajou Densetsu (Scarlet Symphony, aka Touhouvania) because Frontier-Aja really captured the feel of a Castlevania game not only with the level design, but with the art and music styles as well. They deserve a lot of credit because they even released their own English patch for the game. I meant to post some gameplay footage of Scarlet Symphony when it came out but sadly I never got around to it. Maybe I'll do some random footage in the future, but I really liked the game. And for those of you who don't know, Castlevania is a franchise that I will love, adore, and defend until the end of time.

So this is Koumajou Densetsu II (Scarlet Symphony II, aka Touhouvania II) but that's not the complete name but I'll update the title when I find out what it is. This is a trial so it's not the complete game, nor is it out yet. If you want to download the demo and/or check on the game's progress, visit Frontier-Aja's blog at:
http://aja-games.com/aja_blog/ . It doesn't look like you need to have Japanese language installed for the trial to run.

So in this game we take control of Sakuya who plays most similarly to Alucard of Symphony of the Night. She has access to 3 subweapons: Hong Meiling (performs a dive kick), throwing knives (kinda like Thousand Blades, except you can hold the subweapon button down to continue throwing knives as long as you have souls available), and a stopwatch (freezes time, just like in the OG Castlevania titles). She also has a shortened Crissaegrim (up+attack) which consumes MP (blue bar) and has more range than a standard slash. While she doesn't have a slide, pressing down+jump performs a backdash and pressing attack during the backdash will throw a couple of knives that bounce off the ground and travel upward upon impact.

This is my second time playing through the demo and I don't think I did too poorly. It was pretty close. lol

I also decided to experiment with my own personal watermark. Unfortunately it's a bit rough around the edges because I couldn't quite get perfect transparency. If someone can give me some pointers on how to get perfect transparency around those edges let me know and I'd greatly appreciate it. The video also ends abruptly because Fraps automatically splits video footage once it's reached 4 GB so there's a few extra seconds missing at the end but it's nothing special. If someone could tell me how to merge video clips in virtualdub it would be a great help too.

Special thanks to Hellfire99x here on youtube for sharing the encoder and settings with me. I love how the quality turned out.

  • What is the Wolfgirls name that you fight in the end?

  • @Quartzzzz Chen

  • Wow, you play the game much better than I do! Very nicely done. ;)

To merge AVI segments in VirtualDub, drag and drop the first video clip into VirtualDub... then once it's loaded, just go to File -> Append AVI Segment, and choose the next portion of the clip. Repeat as many times as necessary until all video segments are loaded, set up any framerate/compression/etc changes that you may desire (or leave them alone to do a simple merge), then File -> Save as AVI to export the whole video.

    Enjoy!

  • @Hellfire99X thanks for the tip, it sounds really easy. I just didn't think that appending 2 more seconds to the video would have made too much of a difference. lol But I'll be sure to merge clips for future videos. But I'm still trying to figure out how to get a nice logo/watermark with perfect transparency around the edges though.
