Aleatory

If you're looking for randomness, you've come to the right place. I've tried to make a video as close to "random" as I can manage without it degenerating into noise, and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I expected about half of the clips to be nothing but crap, and they were, but a few meaningful bits came up as well. I did not trim or manipulate the clips in any way to get in a complete thought or smooth the transitions; I only did what the numbers told me to.

I ended up not adding audio because I couldn't get iTunes and WMM to play together and because it was 5:30 in the morning when I finished this. If I do this again I might try to stick that in there.

I did, however, randomly choose the font, color, and video effect for the title. (The effect made the color choices moot, but if you must know, it was a horrid canary yellow on baby blue.)

Surprises:
* Clips 3 and 4 (the sheep) are nearly overlapping. From the same segment, they start at 9:51 and 9:46, respectively.
* One clip, appearing only 17 seconds before the end of its segment, turned out to be not from vacation at all, but a leftover bit from something I'd shot earlier. I bet you can tell which one it is.

Nice. One thing about this kind of "travelogue" is that nothing is long enough to make you bored! There's at least one random number generator on the web, where you can set certain limits on the numbers, but you probably knew that already.

Yeah, I could've made the project a little easier if I'd used a computerized random number generator, but I'm all about the low-tech pen, paper, and mental math. Old school, baby!

I loved this. Each interpretation of this idea is unique but yours especially made me say, "Wow, I wish I'd thought of that." (I also wish I had been to Holland and had such beautiful footage to draw upon.) The end result is artful and interesting. Well done.
