Each state has been trying to pass laws to prevent computer forensic people from doing their jobs without having a Private Investigator License. Some states have already made it a felony like Michigan. This is not about Private Investigators enhancing their skills, because this does not change any requirements for a PI to do computer forensics. It only changes YOUR job as a computer forensic specialist by making you work for a PI for two or three years. Your requirements and cost are the only changes.
Helix has since gone commercial, and currently I would say there is a movement due to anger on the topic causing the industry to discontinue using Helix. Make your own mind, but expect someone else to produce a new forensic free disk and to discard Helix.

Scarry stuff. I live in Michigan and have spent the past couple years reading and researching about computer forensics. It's hard enough to get into the business, with the cost of software and training.
This video just answered my question about joining Helix forum before April and any thought of taking classes on Helix.
